Litz Wire Constructions — 200 Standard Items in 5 Series

Continuously transposed litz wire is a high-frequency conductor built by 3-4-5-bundle stranding of individual strands. The catalog is split into 5 series by strand diameter (0.071 to 0.25 mm) — the series is chosen by operating frequency. Each series holds about 40 standard copper cross-sections from 0.5 to 20 mm². Manufactured by Diada-Electro under TU 27.32.11-019-59596873-2025, lead time from 7 business days.

5 series by strand diameter

The strand sets the operating frequency: the higher the frequency, the thinner the individual strand must be. For a given copper cross-section, a thinner strand gives lower HF losses but requires a higher strand count and more complex stranding.

Replacement for Soviet wires per TU 16.К80-03-89

We select an equivalent for ЛЭШО / ЛЭПКО / ЛЭЛО / ЛЭПШД wire (Soviet litz-wire grades, TU 16.К80-03-89) using DIADA continuously transposed litz wire — with enamel rated to 200 °C, rectangular forming and a batch certificate. Minimum batch from 30 m, lead time up to 20 business days.

How the product range is organized

The catalog is a two-dimensional grid: strand diameter (5 series) × copper cross-section (~40 steps in each series). The selection works like this: first the operating frequency sets the series, then the operating current sets the cross-section, and finally the environment/temperature sets the insulation grade.

1. By frequency → series (strand diameter)

The higher the frequency, the stronger the skin effect and the thinner the strand must be. The maximum operating frequency of each series is the practical selection criterion.

FrequencySeries
up to 25 kHz0.25 mm
up to 40 kHz0.2 mm
up to 60 kHz0.15 mm
up to 100 kHz0.1 mm
up to 150 kHz0.071 mm
> 150 kHz0.05 mm (made to order)

For frequencies above 150 kHz, a made-to-order 0.05 mm strand is used. For very low frequencies (< 10 kHz) litz wire is unnecessary.

2. By current → copper cross-section

Current density for windings is 3–5 A/mm². For pulsed modes, account for the RMS value and the form factor.

Operating currentCross-section
2–3 A0.5 mm²
4–6 A1 mm²
7–10 A2 mm²
15–20 A4 mm²
30–40 A8 mm²
60–80 A16 mm²

For exact selection by turns/inductance, use the winding calculator.

3. By environment → insulation grade

Cross-section × series defines the copper conductor. The jacket sets the operating temperature, chemical resistance, breakdown voltage and cross-sectional shape.

  • PTFE / fluoroplastic (Ф) — up to 180°C, HF, chemically resistant
  • Polyimide (ПИ) — up to 300°C, high loads
  • PP (polypropylene) / Arselon aramid — domestic induction, cost-effective
  • 200 series — up to 200°C without PTFE
  • Rectangular (Пр) — +20% winding fill

Frequently asked questions about the catalog

How is the catalog organized?
The catalog is split into 5 series by individual strand diameter: 0.071 · 0.1 · 0.15 · 0.2 · 0.25 mm. Strand diameter is set by the operating frequency — the higher the frequency, the thinner the strand must be to minimize skin effect. Each series holds about 40 constructions with different strand counts, i.e. different copper cross-sections.
How do the series differ from one another?
Physically, only by strand diameter. The 0.071 mm series is optimal up to 150 kHz, the 0.25 mm series up to 25 kHz. For the same copper cross-section, a thinner strand gives lower AC losses at high frequency but costs more because of the higher strand count and more complex stranding.
How do I choose the copper cross-section?
By rated current at the chosen current density. For transformer and inductor windings, 3–5 A/mm² is typical. Waveform matters: for a sine wave, use the RMS value; for PWM or pulsed currents, account for the form factor and the equivalent loss power.
Can a non-standard construction be manufactured?
Yes — strands of 0.05 / 0.12 / 0.224 / 0.315 / 0.355 / 0.4 / 0.5 mm, other cross-sections, rectangular profile. We also manufacture to the customer's TU (technical specification). Send your requirements and we will reply with a quote and lead time.
Are any constructions held in stock?
Some standard items are in stock. The rest are made to order, with a typical lead time from 7 business days. Availability and lead time are confirmed when you request a quote.
Under which TU is it manufactured?
TU 27.32.11-019-59596873-2025, registered to DIADA-ELECTRO LLC. The full technical documentation package is available on request.
